Meet the Village People.
Before I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, I worked at DDB as VP Group Business Director. While I was there I lovingly took care of the Destination Canada account resulting in it being crowned Marketing Magazine's 2009 Marketer of the Year. Being Irish and having moved to Canada ten years ago, selling Canada to travellers was a remarkable opportunity. I love travel and it loved me. Canada had such an effect on me that I couldn't help but become a Canadian Citizen.
Before moving here, I worked at various agencies in Ireland working in a variety of categories – automotive, fashion retail, utilities and technology – adding up to over 20 years experience in the communications business. Being Managing Director of a Village is my dream job. The only thing that I love more than social media is helping clients love social media.
It was social media destiny that inspired me to start up social-centric Village&Co. but my career path of 20 years was not an obvious one. I was truly blessed that my first job in advertising was getting to work on Kokanee in Vancouver. But I could smell digital opportunity from the Bay Area and got swept up in the dot-com cyclone in San Francisco working on some dreamy accounts like Hewlett-Packard, Miller Brewing and Banana Republic, honing my craft at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.
U.S. Visas being what they are, I returned to Vancouver six years later and as the Managing Director of Radar DDB, I led Destination Canada's robust and award-winning social media program, which was the perfect springboard to co-founding our very own social media company. Currently, as Creative Director, my insatiable curiosity results in my days being filled with tumbling and tweeting, friending and following, liking and snapping – all culminating in the perfect storm of social strategy, creativity, technology and innovation.
